The Filing System consists of 6 major categories, several minor categories (hanging folders), and smaller sub-categories (manila folders). You can quickly see into which major category a hanging folder or manila folder belongs. The File It! Directory section of the File It! Guide booklet is an integral part of this system. When deciding where to file something, look at the item for words that you think are Key Words, and look for those words in the first column under "What to File or Find". Then look across to the second column called "Where to File or Find It." That is the hanging folder the item is to be filed in. Take note of the color and use the key at the top of the page to see which major category that hanging folder belongs to. File It!
